Charwei Tsai

Artist

 

Charwei Tsai's concept artworks are inspired by religion. In particular, Heart Sutra, which she has been reading since childhood, is at the core of her works. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in industrial design and history of art and architecture from Rhode Island School of Design in 2002, Charwei worked as an assistant in artist Cai Guo-Qiang's studio. She went on to participate in a young artists exhibition at the Fondation Cartier in France on the recommendation of Cai Guo-Qiang. In 2010, she completed the postgraduate research programme at Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts de Paris. Over the past decade, she has participated in international art exhibitions at the Singapore Biennale, the ZKM Center in Karlsruhe, Germany, the Paris Centre Pompidou, the Asia Pacific Triennial, the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, Carriageworks in Sydney, the Ludwig Museum of Contemporary Art in Budapest, Hungary, and Art Basel Hong Kong. Charwei is the founder of art journal Lovely Daze which provides art information from her unique perspective.
