Chief executive officer, Charles & Keith
Fashion entrepreneur who helped build Charles & Keith into a hugely valuable fashion brand
Charles Wong is the founder and chief executive of Charles & Keith, a Singapore-based fashion and accessories brand that is now potentially valued at more than US$2 billion. It was started by Wong in 1996 and has grown from a humble store in Singapore’s business district into a thriving empire with more than 700 stores in 34 countries worldwide.
Known for its trendy footwear, bags and accessories, Charles & Keith has been worn by celebrities and influencers such as Liu Wen, Hailey Bieber and Emily Ratajkowski. In 2011, LVMH’s private equity arm L Capital Asia bought a 20 per cent stake in the company, marking its value at a cool SG$200 million at the time. A more recent valuation in August 2022, from another potential sale of a 20 per cent stake, places the company's worth at more than US$2 billion.
Charles & Keith has been raising its profile in the past year, collaborating with artists such as Coco Capitan, fashion designers Cecilie Bahnsen and Shushu/Tong, and appointing various K-pop stars such as f(x)’s Krystal Jung and popular girl group Itzy as its global ambassadors.
“Think big, and do not be afraid of failure, even if you do not succeed in your first attempt.”
