Chai Siris

Chai Siris is a Chiang Mai-based multi-media artist who began his career working with homeless people at Bangkok’s Royal Ground. He graduated with First Class Honours from Bangkok University before pursuing a MFA at Chiang Mai University. His often deals with the subjects of border conflict, reconstruction of personal and social history, gender, life and death. His recent exhibitions include Unimagined Communities, Komagome SOKO Tokyo (2017, solo), A beast, a god, and a line Warsaw (2018, group), and Rituals of Signs and Metamorphosis Beijing (2018, group). His collections have been featured in museums like M+ Hong Kong, and his most recent artist residency was in Para Site Hong Kong (2016). His films have been featured at the Venice International Film Festival (2010, 2016). He has also worked with Apichatpong Weerasethakul at the independent film company, Kick the Machine Films. The award-winning artist has recently won Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen Principal Prize 2017. He aims to focus on his own spirituality and is planning to write a new screenplay and novel. “I’ve been through the highest points of fame and I’ve seen how empty it all is. My goal now is to focus on creating meaningful and beautiful work.”
