A humanitarian to her core, Cathy Chui Lee is the first Asian patron of Save the Children HK
Cathy Chui Lee is a lodestar in the realm of philanthropy, providing unwavering support to important charities, particularly campaigning on behalf of child welfare, education and initiatives that help the underprivileged.
As the first Asian patron of Save the Children Hong Kong, Chui Lee was instrumental in establishing and seed funding the organisation’s Children’s Emergency Fund; in 2019 and 2021 she provided significant funding to support its efforts in tackling childhood pneumonia in Bangladesh and Indonesia. On her field missions with the organisation, she has met some of the world’s most marginalised children, including earthquake victims in Nepal, refugees fleeing conflict in Syria, and those living in poor households in remote areas of Laos and Cambodia.
For the last decade, she has held the position of Goodwill Ambassador of the Chi Heng Foundation, and has been an advisory board member of the Hong Kong Red Cross. She is an honorary patron of Summerbridge Hong Kong, a non-profit that supports underprivileged young people through education. In 2008, Chui Lee and her husband Martin Lee, chairman of Henderson Land Development, established their own initiative, Martin & Cathy Lee Charitable Foundation, which provides assistance to the underprivileged.
Over the next year, Chui Lee will be focusing her efforts on environmental issues and using her platform to advocate for urban farming. “I intend to support the conversion of some concrete roofs into vibrant green spaces by encouraging communities and tenants in buildings to lead a sustainable and healthy lifestyle,” she says.
A devoted supporter of the arts, Chui Lee is also a board member of The Friends of The Hong Kong Museum of Art and is chairwoman of The Friends of The Hong Kong Arts Centre.
