Caroline Riady

Vice President Director, Siloam International Hospitals

As the younger generation of the Riady family, Caroline is freshening up its enterprises with a modern approach

Caroline is the third generation of Indonesian-based giant multinational company Lippo Group, the granddaughter of Mochtar Riady, its founder, and daughter of James Riady. One of her grandfather’s advice that she embedded in her way of working is to focus on building a business, not on being rich instantly. Moreover, Caroline did not join the business field during her early days. Having an interest in education, she chose to study the early education programme at Wheaton College in Illinois. Only after 2012 did she go to the family business via the health division of Lippo Group by working as Executive Director at Siloam Hospital. Caroline then held the position of VP Director and Managing Director of Operations, Productivity, and Effectiveness. Today, she oversees 39 Siloam Hospitals all over the country. When the pandemic hit, she met a challenging situation as pressing as the rampaging virus itself. The health division’s cash flow was unwell, with only enough money for less than a month. Caroline took a courageous step by changing two Siloam Hospitals to serve only Covid 19-only cases while concentrating the other hospitals to focus on other urgent matters.
