The first woman to chair the Indonesian National Shipowners Association, as well as handling the shipping company Andhika Group, Carmelita Hartoto is taking charge of the country’s marine industry

A longtime industry veteran and CEO of one of the biggest shipping companies in Indonesia, Carmelita holds many top positions in shipping and logistics. In 2005, she took on the role of Commissioner of Andhika GAC and President Director of Andhika Lines, the top shipping company in Indonesia.

The Andhika Group is a pioneer in the field, founded as a single-ship company carrying crude and clean oil back in 1973 by Hartoto’s father, who was an officer in the navy, the late Hartoto Hardikusumo. Now the company has several vessels and expanded its lines to Singapore and Hong Kong.

Prior to her time with Andhika Lines, Carmelia Hartoto served as director for several of the group’s businesses, armed with an MBA in Finance from Webster University in Missouri, the United States. She was elected the first woman to chair the Indonesian Shipowners Association in 2015, as well as the vice-chair for the transportation segment at the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
