Creative director, Carlo Calma Consultancy
One of the Philippines’ most visionary architects, Carlo Calma continues to merge art, architecture and emotion
Artistic vision runs deep in Carlo Calma’s lineage. With celebrated architects Lor and Ed Calma among his relatives and a father who pioneered interior contracting, he grew up immersed in design. Yet Carlo has forged a distinct path of his own—one defined by experimentation, craftsmanship, and a deeply human approach to architecture.
A graduate of the California College of the Arts and London’s Architectural Association, Calma is known for projects that blur the line between art and architecture, from the sculptural Infinity House and acclaimed restaurant Gallery by Chele to Lava Rock, home of Asador Alfonso. His landmark design for the Philippine Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka—a collaboration with Japan’s Cat Inc.—earned the Silver Award for Exhibition Design, celebrating the nation’s harmony of nature, culture, and community.
Currently, Calma is working on the Museum for Architecture and Design (MAD), set to open in July 2026, alongside new ventures in museums and wellness resorts. Through his consultancy, he continues to craft beautiful, purposeful spaces that bring happiness, meaning, and a renewed sense of place to those who experience them.
