Calvin Choi is the chairman of financial services conglomerate the AMTD Group, which has operations in asset management, investment banking, digital banking, insurtech, hotels, private education and strategic investment. He took over the company in 2016, and grew it from a fairly small operation into a behemoth. Amongst its subsidiaries is AMTD International, one of Asia’s largest independent investment banks and asset managers, which is now the world’s first ever NYSE and SGX dual listed company; its stock ticker, “HKIB”, stands for “Hong Kong investment bank”.

Previously the managing director of UBS’s investment banking division and the head of China strategic alliance unit at Citigroup’s investment banking division, as well as its China chief specialist, Choi is also the founder of the AMTD Charity Foundation and the AMTD FinTech Centre of PolyU Faculty of Business.

He also takes on numerous roles in public service: he is the lead chairman of the Hong Kong Youth Association, the founding chairman of the Hong Kong Youth FinTech Association and the Greater Bay Young Entrepreneurs Association, the vice chairman of the Greater Bay Area Homeland Youth Community Foundation and the Hong Kong Federation of Professions. He is also a board director of the ASEAN Financial Innovation Network, which was founded by the World Bank, the Monetary Authority of Singapore, and the ASEAN Bankers Association; a member of the Hong Kong government’s Cyberport Advisory Panel, and of the Prisoners’ Education Trust Fund Investment Advisory Committee; a vice president of the China Young Entrepreneurs Association; and a board member of NGO OneChild to fight against sexual exploitation of children including trafficking.
