Educator
A dedicated scholar and educator, Bui Tran Phuong has made significant contributions to Vietnam’s education system before turning her focus to cultural history and women’s studies.
After completing her studies at Marie Curie, she pursued a degree in history at Paris I University, later earning her master’s at Paris II University. Upon returning to Vietnam, she lectured at several esteemed institutions, such as Ho Chi Minh City University of Education and Can Tho University. From 2006 to 2016, as Principal of Hoa Sen University in Ho Chi Minh City, she played a pivotal role in elevating the institution to one of Vietnam’s most prestigious private universities.
Dr Phuong’s research has been widely recognised and esteemed by the international academic community. Her doctoral thesis, Vietnam 1920–1945: Gender and Modernity – New Perceptions and Experiences, offered fresh perspectives on the role of women in Vietnamese history. In 2012, she was awarded the Legion of Honour, Knight, by the President of France in recognition of her efforts in fostering cultural and educational ties between France and Vietnam.
