An award-winning Malaysian leading man, Bront Palarae now has an established regional presence across television and film

Bront Palarae is one of the most highly acclaimed Malaysian actors who has achieved critical and commercial success on a regional scale. Palarae first gained prominence in television, portraying two characters in the drama series Cinta Tsunami. After breaking into films in small roles, he made an award-winning performance in the film Belukar, winning him Best Actor at the 23rd Malaysia Film Festival.

A slew of award-winning local roles later, including Malaysian 2016 blockbuster Ola Bola and Terbaik Dari Langit—both of which won him Best Actor awards—Palarae began to establish himself in Southeast Asian cinema. First, he starred in HBO Asia’s Halfworlds, followed by a string of Indonesian productions: Headshot, My Stupid Boss and Indonesia’s highest-grossing and widely distributed film of 2017, Pengabdi Setan.

Palarae recently starred in The Bridge, a Malaysian-Singaporean crime-drama series, which won him the Best Leading Male Performance (Digital Prize) at the 25th Asian Television Awards. In 2021, Palarae debuted in his first international film production, Edge of the World, directed by Michael Haussman. The film about James Brooke, the first Rajah of Sarawak, saw Palarae portray the Sarawak ruler Pengiran Indera Mahkota, with Jonathan Rhys Meyers starring as Brooke.

Besides acting, Palarae is also an entrepreneur who co-founded the Pixel Play Group, which deals with new venture investments, film and television production, and distribution opportunities for the global halal market. Palarae is married to Rozi Izma, herself a director, and together they have one daughter.
