Brian Tan

CEO, FutureLab

One of Malaysia’s bright young entrepreneurs striving to make a social impact, Brian Tan connects young people with mentors through his online initiative FutureLab

Brian Tan co-founded and helms FutureLab, an online mentoring platform that helps students, fresh graduates, young professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs connect with experienced mentors for guidance on their career, business and life.

The idea for FutureLab stems from his own experience as a young biochemist graduate trying to secure a job in management consulting. Failing at his first attempt because he was ill-prepared for the interview, he realised that there was a huge knowledge gap that hindered the transition for fresh graduates into the workforce. Tan, together with co-founders and childhood friends Clarissa and Fung Wei, established FutureLab after receiving positive feedback from industry meet-and-greets between students and professionals that they hosted to test their idea.

With the positive results from that exercise, they secured funding for their start-up and began to develop the platform while juggling their full-time careers. Tan worked as a management consultant at Accenture and later moved to Ethos & Company, before quitting to become the CEO of FutureLab. He also mentors those who are interested in a career in management consultancy or needing advice on establishing a start-up.
