Senior vice president, Checkout.com
The Asia head of a top payment giant has a history of leading new economy success stories
Brian Sze helps the world pay for things. Since 2019, he has been a senior vice president for cross-border payment provider Checkout.com, with current responsibilities that put him in charge of the company’s operations in China, Singapore, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. Checkout allows companies to accept payments from a wide variety of sources and locations through a single platform, promising them improved speed, reliability and usable customer data. It is able to handle more than 150 currencies, as well as all major cards and popular alternative payment methods. In 2025, the company was valued at US$12 billion.
Before Checkout, Sze worked between 2017 and 2019 as general manager for Hong Kong and Taiwan at Asia’s top online classified marketplace, Singapore-based Carousell. Before that, from 2015, he was head of commercial and part of the Hong Kong launch team for food delivery giant Deliveroo. He has also worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers; been the head of sales and business development for real estate listings marketplace Spacious; and, in 2014, co-founded The Workground, one of Hong Kong’s first coworking spaces, which was later bought by TusPark Workhub.
Brian is the son of Ivis Sze, CEO of real estate, banking, manufacturing and commodities trading group Hang Tung Resources; and the grandson of esteemed calligrapher, educator and philanthropist Sze Chi Ching. In 2023, he tied the knot with actor and model Karena Ng in a low-key Hong Kong ceremony, followed by a lavish formal wedding in Italy the following year.
