Brahmal Vasudevan

Venture capitalist Brahmal Vasudevan has magic fingers because whatever he touches turns to gold

Brahmal Vasudevan founded Creador Sdn Bhd in 2011, and within a decade successfully grew it into a multibillion-dollar private equity firm specialising in mergers and acquisitions, management buy-outs and corporate restructuring. Just this year, his firm has managed to pull off the largest listing of the year via credit information provider CTOS Digital Bhd, following from last year’s record listing and initial public offering (IPO) of home improvement chain MR D.I.Y.. It is no wonder that many market watchers eye his every move with deep interest.

Before going all-in into the world of private equity financing, he cut his teeth as an international marketing manager at British American Tobacco plc, marketing director in Astro where he was involved in strategy, marketing and expansion, as well as having a stint at Boston Consulting Group. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Though his firm Creador has its headquarters in Malaysia, it has offices in India, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines, with an eye towards growth capital investments in the Southeast Asian region. Covering five principal industries of consumer, retail, financial services, business services and healthcare, the firm has successfully raised US$2 billion in investments across its five Creador funds managed by a dedicated operations and strategy team named Creador+. He often takes a more collaborative approach without resorting to the total control of a company to help it grow and maximise its potential. This model has been a resounding win-win for both him and the companies involved.
