Regal silhouettes and exquisite detail mark the work of fashion icon Biyan Wanaatmadja
Biyan Wanaatmadja

Designer Biyan Wanaatmadja is inspired by the prints and patterns of Indonesia. His work fuses the intricate details of Indonesian textiles with the aesthetics of Western couture, a union that creates a majestic style, making him one of the most prominent designers in the country.

The result is an amalgam of bold prints and exquisite embellishments. Each piece uses an original patchwork of silk and lace, with meticulous detail evident in his works through hand-embroidery and beading.

After finishing his studies at M Müller & Sohn in Düsseldorf, Germany and the London College of Fashion, Wanaatmadja lived in Europe for about 15 years before returning to Indonesia. At home, he established his brand Biyan in 1984, with the line's success was followed closely by the launch of his second line, Studio 133 Biyan, in 1985.

In 2005, Wanaatmadja launched his bridal collection. His collections have been made available in retailers like Club 21, Bloomingdale’s and Saks Fifth Avenue.
