Reforming fashion: pioneering a new benchmark for 360 Sustainability
Dr. Bernice Pan, an award-winning creative entrepreneur and the Founder & Chief Creative Officer of Deploy, is reshaping the fashion landscape with her visionary approach to sustainability.
A meticulous designer with a robust academic foundation and deep industry expertise, Bernice holds Master’s degrees in Architecture from the University of Cambridge and the Royal College of Art, as well as a PhD in Systems Design Management from Brunel University. She seamlessly combines these qualifications with a commitment to holistic, human-centred design.
Alarmed by the excess production and waste in the fashion industry, Bernice has dedicated her career to pioneering innovative strategies and a circular business model that challenges traditional consumption patterns. In 2006, she founded Deploy, driven by a groundbreaking 360 Sustainability ethos that supports 13 of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Deploy has garnered global recognition, including B Corp certification with one of the world’s highest scores of 149.5 in 2022. The brand has also won prestigious accolades such as the Future Icon Award for Best Zero-Waste Fashion Initiative in 2025 and Marie Claire UK’s Sustainability Award for Ethical Fashion Brand of the Year in 2023.
Bernice’s design philosophy focuses on values, as reflected in Deploy's beautifully crafted, timeless garments tailored to enhance diverse body shapes and movement. Its ingenious modular design system dramatically reduces resource consumption while maximising style versatility to redefine newness. At the same time, it optimises supply chain efficiency and implements zero-waste, decarbonizing practices. Bernice’s foresight into the industry’s critical need for transformation has revolutionised traditional fashion supply chains, establishing a globally applicable model for holistic sustainable development.
A tireless advocate for 360 Sustainability, Bernice collaborates with academia, education, business, and international organisations, delivering talks at prestigious institutions such as the United Nations, the American Chamber of Commerce EU, Institute of Directors, Women on Boards, Harvard Business School, and Stanford’s School of Climate & Sustainability. As co-editor of Accelerating Sustainability in Fashion, Clothing & Textiles, she has to contributed several published books and advises businesses on sustainable practices.
“A design that doesn’t solve a problem or improve a situation is a waste of resources and not worth creating. When someone feels the care in the exquisite fabric and impeccable fit through Deploy's thoughtful design and sustainable values, enhancing their true confidence from the inside out, I know my job is well done.”
