Bernadette Ruth Irawati Setiady

President Commissioner, Kalbe Farma

Bernadette leads one of the biggest pharmacy companies in Indonesia into the digital age and global expansion

Despite having Boenjamin Setiawan, the founder of Kalbe Farma, as her uncle, Bernadette still needed to familiarise herself with the company's inner workings. She has held the titles of CEO, marketing director of ethical, OTC businesses, and director for corporate strategy and business development before taking the mantle of president commissioner since 2017. Among various measures she took when leading the giant pharmaceutical, healthcare and nutrition company were developing international and biopharma divisions and building a digital healthcare ecosystem. As a woman leading the business industry, Bernadette knows how urgent it is to support female entrepreneurship. In March this year, she announced Kalbe Farma’s collaboration with The Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection, UN Women, UNDP, and Women's World Banking. The programme would support women with their home industries and skill training in 11 provinces to help address an unfortunate economic condition due to the pandemic. Some of her global acknowledgements are 2013 Forbes Asia’s Top 50 Businesswomen and part of EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year in Monte Carlo in 2017. She is also Forbes 2017 Indonesia Inspiring Women and EY 2016 Indonesia Entrepreneur of The Year.
