The philanthropist champions education, healthcare and contemporary art through initiatives that drive meaningful social impact across Asia.

Belinda Tanoto is helping redefine philanthropy in Asia through her commitment to education, healthcare and the arts. As a member of Tanoto Foundation’s Board of Trustees, she helps shape the family foundation’s philanthropic strategy, advancing programmes that expand opportunities, nurture future leaders and improve community well-being across Indonesia, China and Singapore. The foundation was established in 1981 to improve lives through accessible, quality education.

Collaboration is central to her approach. In 2025, Tanoto Foundation signed a memorandum of understanding with the Gates Foundation to explore joint initiatives in public health, maternal and child nutrition, education and philanthropic capacity-building across Asia. The agreement reflects a shared ambition to address complex social challenges through sustained investment and collective action.

Tanoto also champions greater access to contemporary art. As founder and trustee of Tanoto Art Foundation, a Singapore-based non-profit organisation, she supports artistic exchange and public engagement, particularly within Southeast Asia. Through exhibitions and programmes, the foundation seeks to connect artists, institutions and audiences while encouraging dialogue across cultures.

Its inaugural exhibition, Rituals of Perception, held during Singapore Art Week in January 2026, featured works by more than 20 artists exploring relationships between the body, materials and time. The foundation will also operate a 30,000 sq ft contemporary art museum within the redeveloped Tanglin Shopping Centre, scheduled to open in 2030.

Beyond her philanthropic work, Tanoto is managing director at RGE, overseeing business operations in China.
