Co-founder and director, Arc Studio Architecture + Urbanism
Belinda Huang is director and co-founder of Arc Studio Architecture + Urbanism, the firm behind iconic, skyline-defining projects such as the premium HDB towers of Pinnacle @ Duxton in the city centre, Wing Tai’s 337-unit The Tembusu condominium at Tampines Road and One Balmoral on Balmoral Road. Huang, who was named 2020 Designer of the Year at the President’s Design Awards, leads the practice with her husband and joint award winner Khoo Peng Beng.
Huang and Khoo started Arc Studio Architecture + Urbanism in 1999, and made a name for their firm by winning the global Duxton Plain Public Housing Design Competition with their innovative design just three years later. Pinnacle @ Duxton, which houses over 7,000 residents, features a chain of seven 50-storey towers connected by two 500mlong sky gardens, which are the longest ever built on skyscrapers.
Since then, Huang has played an active role in steering her firm to develop spaces that play a part in to “seeding life and community”. These include communal spaces such as Nee Soon East Community Centre, An-Nur Mosque in Woodlands and Wesley Methodist Church, as well as hospitality developments such as Village Hotel, The Outpost Hotel and Barracks Hotel on Sentosa.
“We like to see our spaces be able to support relationships in a way that benefits (the users) as well.”
