One of Asia’s most eligible bachelors, Barom Bhicharnchitr may have been destined to work for the family’s retail business, Central Department Store Group, but he has certainly left his mark in the process. He manages their flagship mall in Bangkok, Central Embassy. The 70,000sqm venue, a world-class shopping and lifestyle destination, benefited from Barom’s personal touch: traditional Thai heritage is given an urban edge, allowing for a curated individualized experience. Barom joined Central Embassy’s management team in 2014, building it up from the global economic recession. Now, he often fields requests from retailers eager to be included in the lifestyle stop. Along with popular local and international names, the mall houses his luxury concept store launched in 2012, SIWILAI, and Siwali City Club (a focus for up-market social gatherings). Siwilai carries “avant garde, yet affordable and functional” brands, with quirky products for a younger audience, and a “Thai-Made” section that takes pride of place. Additionally, he does frequent collaborations with designer friends. For example, Siwilai collaborated with British luggage label Globe-trotter to produce a Safari Trolley Case that featured Siwilai’s Chao Phraya River pattern – a symbol for where they came from, and where they are going to next.
