Singapore’s Ambassador to the United States of America, Ministry of Foreign Affairs

 

A career diplomat and authority on South-East Asia, Ashok Kumar Mirpuri has worked in official envoy roles since the millennium, first within the Asia-Pacific region and for the last decade as Ambassador to the USA

Ashok Kumar Mirpuri has served as Singapore’s Ambassador to the United States of America since July 2012, when he took up the post following prior appointments as Ambassador to Indonesia from 2006 to 2012; High Commissioner to Malaysia from 2002 to 2006; and High Commissioner to Australia from 2000 to 2002.

Mirpuri, who graduated with an honours degree from the National University of Singapore, joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1984. He was named director of the ministry’s Policy Planning & Analysis Directorate I (South-East Asia) a decade later, and seconded to Shell in the UK as Asia-Pacific corporate adviser to the oil giant in 1997. Mirpuri was appointed as minister-counsellor and deputy chief of mission at the Singapore Embassy in Jakarta a year later.

A golfing enthusiast, Mirpuri is also a father of two children.
