Chairman and CEO, SUTL
Arthur Tay leads SUTL, a diversified business with interests across the region
Arthur Tay is the chairman and chief executive of SUTL, a group of companies that manages various businesses and also owns and operates marinas around the world. Tay is a second-generation leader at SUTL, which was established as a ship chandelling and trading company by his father, Tay Choon Hye, in 1968.
SUTL has evolved into a diversified group over the years, with a presence in 18 markets globally and an average annual turnover of S$800 million. SUTL’s regional stable of consumer goods and lifestyle brands includes Nike, Singha, Evian, Yeo’s, KFC, 3M, Victorinox, and many others. It also owns in-house brands such as wine labels Heritage Vale and Arthur’s Reserve.
The company’s SUTL Enterprise division also operates One°15 Marina at Sentosa Cove which has just received the Platinum Gold Anchor Award in 2022 by the Marina Industries Association (MIA), as well as other locations worldwide. These include Malaysia’s Puteri Harbour, Suzhou and Zhongshan in China, and Brooklyn in the US. In addition to this, the division is unveiling its One°15 Nirup Island destination in 2023 beside a neighbouring a five-star resort , managed by Accor’s MGallery Hotel Collection and is making plans to expand this marina tourism business into Queensland in Australia, where there is ready infrastructure to curate bespoke yachting experiences.
SUTL is also a good corporate citizen; among other initiatives, it donated new dialysis machines to the Tay Choon Hye-NKF Dialysis Centre for kidney patients in 2015. The Dialysis Centre itself was established in 2000 with a donation of S$5 million from the elder Tay. SUTL is now hosting its first-ever Blue Water EduFest 2022 in November, a four-day marine conservation event open to public and private sector stakeholders and hits home for Tay, especially as a boater and diver who believes more can be done to protect our oceans. The organisation has also established a scholarship at Singapore Management University for Vietnamese students in 2019. Tay currently serves as patron for the West Coast Citizens’ Consultative Committee.
Tay’s recent achievements include expanding the group’s footprint by commissioning One°15 Marina Panwa Phuket in 2024 and successfully executing the Blue Water EduFest for the third year running. In 2024, SUTL also completed its first edition of the Singapore Yachting Festival.
“Growing a business is about scalability. We are not focusing just on China, but it is natural that we expand into China as a first strategic move. Paying attention to Chinese travellers is a no-brainer.”
