Arnel Pineda

Singer, Journey

As the frontman of American rock band Journey, Arnel Pineda is one of the country’s most esteemed and beloved performers

Arnel Pineda claimed international fame when he became the frontman of American rock band Journey but his way to the top was not easy. He used to collect and sell scrap on the streets of Manila before performing at gigs in Hong Kong. He released his first self-titled album in 1999 with Warner Bros, and in 2006, he moved back to Manila and formed The Zoo band. They would cover songs by The Eagles, Air Supply, Aerosmith, and Journey, among others—videos of which were uploaded on YouTube that would reach and win the ear of Journey guitarist Neal Schon. Arnel flew to the US to audition, and the rest was history. Journey’s first album with Arnel, Revelation, debuted in 2008 and hit No. 5 in the Billboard Top 200 album charts. To promote, the band travelled throughout Europe, the US, and Asia. Now Arnel, an international rockstar, pays it forward through the Arnel Pineda Foundation Inc, a nonprofit that focuses on giving kids access to quality education.
