Prime minister, Federal Government of Malaysia
Malaysia’s prime minister, recognised for lowering the national deficit through prudent fiscal reform
YAB Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim became Malaysia's tenth Prime Minister in November 2022. His appointment followed a hung parliament, necessitating extensive coalition-building with former political rivals. Since then, his government's economic stewardship has delivered measurable results—Malaysia's ringgit and stock market ranked among Asia's top performers in 2024—while the Madani Economy framework charts the nation's path towards joining the world's top 30 largest economies.
In 2025, Anwar implemented Malaysia's subsidy rationalisation through the Budi Madani RON95 programme, reducing petrol prices for over 16 million eligible citizens to RM1.99 per litre whilst removing subsidies for non-citizens and large companies. His unwavering advocacy for Palestinian rights, dating to his 1970s student activism, has positioned Malaysia as one of the most vocal defenders of the Palestinian cause on the global stage, bringing moral clarity that elevates the nation's international standing.
With Malaysia serving as Asean Chair this year, Anwar deployed diplomatic prowess to host US President Donald Trump and other world leaders in Kuala Lumpur for the October Asean Summit, with analysts crediting him for restoring visibility and moral voice to the regional bloc through emphasis on unity, dialogue and multilateralism during deep geopolitical divides.
He is recognised as the tenth among the world's most influential Muslims reflects principled leadership on Palestinian rights, climate change and inclusive economic development, whilst his foreign policy pursues strategic partnerships with both traditional Western allies and emerging powers, achieving BRICS partner country status in January 2025.
