Group CEO and co-founder, Grab
The visionary who has revolutionised how people travel, pay and live in the region
Anthony Tan is the co-founder and CEO of Grab, Southeast Asia’s leading superapp. What began in 2012 as a taxi-hailing app, MyTeksi, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia—created to make rides safer and more reliable—has evolved into a regional tech powerhouse delivering services across mobility, deliveries, financial services, and enterprise solutions.
After relocating its headquarters to Singapore and rebranding as Grab in 2016, the company went public on Nasdaq in December 2021—one of the region’s largest tech listings. Today, one in 20 Southeast Asians uses Grab monthly, a testament to its deep integration into daily life.
Tan has driven the company’s evolution through technology and purpose. In 2023, Grab introduced GrabMaps, a hyperlocal mapping and navigation platform, and expanded travel tools within the app to enhance cross-border convenience for users. His leadership also led to initiatives like the US$1 million GrabScholar programme, supporting underserved youth, and the GrabMerchant Centres, providing digital and financial training to small businesses.
Beyond Grab, Tan co-founded the ACE Team Foundation with his wife Chloe Tong, focusing on education, healthcare, and rehabilitation in Southeast Asia. In 2023, the Foundation partnered with SingHealth Fund to launch a $3 million Healthcare Administrators Fund, supporting the professional development of healthcare administrators and strengthening the future of academic medicine.
A Harvard Business School graduate and former executive at automobile distributor Tan Chong Motor Holdings Berhad, Tan blends commercial acumen with community impact. He is a committed advocate of servant leadership, steering both Grab and ACE to create lasting, inclusive change at scale.
