A visionary politician enhancing Malaysia’s transport landscape with innovative infrastructure and advancements
Anthony Loke is a prominent Malaysian politician and member of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), currently serving as the Minister of Transport since November 2022. He has been an active member of Parliament for Seremban and the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly for Chennah since 2013. During his time as the DAP’s sixth secretary-general, Loke was instrumental in determining the party’s policies and strategies. He graduated with a degree in Development Science from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, equipping him with a solid foundation for addressing the complexities of transport governance and infrastructure development.
Loke has taken the lead on multiple important projects during the past year to improve the public transport system. The Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) network is set to undergo significant upgrades with the introduction of 62 new passenger train sets, totalling an investment of RM10.7 billion aimed at addressing service quality and reliability. Furthermore, the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, connecting Johor Bahru and Singapore, is currently 83 per cent complete and is scheduled to commence operations by 2027, enhancing cross-border connectivity. Another project that is moving forward as planned is the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), which aims to connect Gombak and Kota Bharu by 2027. In the aviation sector, Loke has prioritised the recovery of the industry in the aftermath of the pandemic, working to position Malaysia as a key aviation hub in the region.
