Veteran volunteer and NCSS President championing inclusion and compassionate care
A former lawyer turned full-time volunteer, Anita Fam has devoted over three decades to advancing Singapore’s social service landscape. Her contributions span disability support, palliative care, healthcare and mental health—championing inclusion and compassionate care at both community and national levels.
She currently serves as president of the National Council of Social Service and vice chairman of the Board of Visiting Justices and Board of Inspection. She also sits on the boards of the Institute of Mental Health and the Lien Foundation, among others.
Previously, Fan was chairman of Assisi Hospice (2016–2022) and the Enabling Masterplan 3 Steering Committee, as well as vice president of AWWA (2007–2013). She co-chaired the Community Silver Trust Evaluation Panel (2012–2016) and chaired the Marriage Central Advisory Board (2008–2013). Her extensive board experience includes the National Healthcare Group, SG Cares Steering Committee, Singapore Hospice Council, Singapore Totalisator Board, Catholic Health Care Asia, Sembawang Family Service Centre, St Andrew’s Autism Centre, and the Singapore International Foundation.
A Justice of the Peace, Fam has received numerous accolades for her service, including the President’s Volunteerism & Philanthropy Award Leader of Good (Open) and the Ministry of Social and Family Development’s Volunteer and Partner Award Lifetime Achievement Award in 2025, the Public Service Star (Covid-19) in 2021, the Public Service Star in 2014, and the Public Service Medal in 2008. Her lifelong dedication continues to inspire a culture of empathy and civic responsibility in Singapore.
