CEO and chief scientist, 23 Century Medical Group
Advancing cellular therapies that restore sight and set new standards in regenerative healthcare
A pioneer in regenerative medicine, Dr Angelina Tiah Shy Yng is redefining the boundaries of vision restoration through cellular therapy. As CEO and Chief Scientist of Malaysia’s 23 Century Medical Group, she led the development of a groundbreaking stem cell treatment for retinitis pigmentosa (RP), a rare genetic eye disease that causes blindness and previously had no cure. In 2025, her team’s clinical trials demonstrated remarkable success using Wharton’s Jelly-derived mesenchymal stem cells, which regenerate retinal photoreceptors to restore light and colour perception.
Under her leadership, 23 Century earned the title “Stem Cell Therapy Centre for Vision Restoration of the Year (Malaysia)” at the 2025 GlobalHealth Asia-Pacific Awards, marking a milestone in the global treatment of inherited blindness. Dr Tiah also received the Blue Ribbon Award from the SRAM & MRAM Group, a London-based global conglomerate recognised for championing innovation and sustainability across healthcare, technology and advanced industries. She concurrently serves as Director of the Biotech Division at SRAM & MRAM, leading its Bioscience Department in developing new biotech products and technologies.
A strong advocate for making advanced cellular therapies safe, ethical and accessible, Tiah continues to advance research into genetic blindness and autoimmune diseases, cementing her reputation as a visionary in regenerative healthcare.
