The first female architect to be named the President’s Design Award Designer of the Year

Angelene Chan is the Executive Chairman and former CEO of DP Architects and its group of companies, the firm behind famous sites such as the Singapore Sports Hub, Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay and The Dubai Mall. The company’s work is also evident in more than 20 projects and redevelopments along the Orchard Road shopping belt, including Wisma Atria, The Centrepoint and Mandarin Gallery. Holding the twin precepts of “design” and “people” close to her heart, Chan steers DP Architects in producing authentic and purposeful architecture that fulfils the needs of the community.

Chan sees architecture as a deeply meaningful practice that has the power to bring together communities and improve lives. She heads DP’s in-house design advisory board that recommends improvements and solutions to design schemes produced across its 16 global offices. Rooted in the belief that research and discourse are powerful drivers of design, she has initiated typology studies and knowledge-sharing platforms to further its design capabilities. Chan first received recognition for her design credentials in 2010, when she was named one of Singapore’s 20 leading architects under the age of 45 by the Urban Redevelopment Authority. She grew from strength to strength, clinching the President’s Design Award (P*DA) for her design of Sunray Woodcraft Construction Headquarters in 2015 and being named P*DA Designer of the Year in 2018, Singapore’s highest design accolade. In October 2025, Chan was named the AWiCS-SIA Woman Architect of the Year.

Among her current appointments, Angelene serves on the boards of the Building and Construction Authority, the Singapore Land Authority, Sentosa Development Corporation, as well as the Board of Trustees and the Management Board of the Centre for Environment and Ageing Well at the National University of Singapore. She is also on the Board of Directors of the Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship, is a member of the Housing Development Board’s Architectural Design Panel and World Cities Summit Knowledge Council, and serves as the vice-chairman of Dover Park Hospice and chairperson of the WCCM Board of Trustees. Angelene also previously served on the board of the Urban Redevelopment Authority, the Singapore Board of Architects and the Professional Engineers Board.
