The 'Filipina Wonder Woman' earns the nickname not just for her TV roles but also for her philanthropy

Many will remember Angel Locsin’s slim figure on not one, but two, covers of FHM as the World’s Sexiest Woman twice, in 2005 and in 2010. The actress was in big TV roles for local productions of Mulawin, the K-drama adaptation Only You and Lobo. In 2008, she earned a nomination for an International Emmy Award for Best Performance by an Actress and holds a sterling record on best actress awards for various top grossing films from 2013.

One of her most iconic roles to date was Darna, the Philippines’ own mythical version of Wonder Woman. During filming and training to do her own stunts in 2016, the fit and active Locsin incurred a spinal injury that put her out of the spotlight, to both her own and her fans’ dismay. The next time she emerged was during the pandemic, responding to the call for relief efforts. In true form, she forged on and kept the focus on her Covid-19 efforts. This included the #UniTentWe StandPH project to provide tents for medical frontliners, which raised over PhP10million in just one month. When community pantries were sprouting up across the country, her own effort was drawing and feeding thousands at her sites. The actress, philanthropist and businesswoman continues to work tirelessly to raise funds. She was one of Forbes Asia’s Heroes of Philanthropy in 2019 and Top 100 Digital Stars in 2020.
