An award-winning director known for her thought-provoking features

The year 2023 was a whirlwind for Amanda Nell Eu, thanks to the amazing success of her directorial debut, Tiger Stripes. Premiering at the 95th Cannes Film Festival, the film garnered international acclaim by winning the grand prize for best feature at Cannes’ International Critics’ Week—a historic achievement for a Malaysian film, and making Eu the first Malaysian female director to receive the accolade.

In Tiger Stripes, Amanda Nell Eu masterfully navigates the delicate balance between fantasy and reality, infusing the film with elements derived from her personal fears and experiences, all done with deliberate cinematic finesse.

Eu was awarded with the 2024 Women in Motion Emerging Talent Award presented by Kering and the Festival de Cannes, an initiative recognising inspiring figures and talented emerging female talent in the film industry. Selected by Swiss director and 2023 Emerging Talent awardee Carmen Jaquier, the award came with a grant of €50,000.

A proud alumna of the London Film School, the Berlinale Talent Campus, and the Locarno Filmmakers Academy, Eu runs her production company, Ghost Grrrl Pictures, alongside co-producer Foo Fei Ling.
