Alvin Tan
Minister of State, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth; Ministry of Trade and Industry
Alvin Tan is Minister of State for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, and the Ministry of Trade and Industry, holding these appointments since September 2020. Tan was elected as a Member of Parliament in July 2020; he had worked at LinkedIn as its head of public policy and economics for Asia Pacific prior to joining the Government.
His past corporate experience also includes stints at Facebook (inclusive of Instagram and WhatsApp) as head of Public Policy and Trust and Safety, and at Goldman Sachs in Hong Kong and Singapore as an investment banker. Tan also worked on technology projects at the executive office of the United Nations Secretary-General in New York.
Tan is an active community leader in Singapore, serving seniors, youth and vulnerable families in the Moulmein-Cairnhill and Kreta Ayer-Kim Seng constituencies since 2005. He also served as chairman of the Kreta Ayer-Kim Seng Inter-Racial and Religious Confidence Circle, which addresses issues and works related to racial and religious matters, to preserve harmony on the ground.
