The sight of dying coral reefs amid polluted waters in the Philippines in 2016—the same ones he had seen thriving two years before—sparked Allan San to devote his life to environmental protection. Through Shanghai Narwhal Ocean Research Center, he has completed various global outreach projects, including the first global marine microplastic sampling work spanning a large latitude. He is also the first person to dive into Antarctica’s Ross Sea.
