For shining a musical spotlight on Taiwanese indigenous identity
R&B singer Aljenljeng Tjaluvie, or Abao, a member of the Paiwan indigenous Taiwanese ethnic group, never looked back after she started singing in the Paiwan language to be in touch with her culture. Her second solo studio album, Kinakaian, which reflects indigenous traditions, emerged as the biggest winner at the 31st Golden Melody Awards, with eight nominations and three wins.
