The business leader is shaping Toyota's success, philanthropic missions and retail innovation in the Philippines

A central force in the Ty family’s business empire, Alfred Ty plays key roles across finance, real estate, and automotive industries. As chairman of Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP), he oversees one of Toyota’s strongest markets in Asia. Under his direction, TMP has earned the prestigious Triple Crown award for over two decades and achieved record-breaking sales in 2025, capturing a 47.93 per cent market share and a 66 per cent rise in net income to PHP 12.5 billion in the first half of the year.

As vice chairman of GT Capital Holdings Inc, Ty steered the conglomerate to record results, with core net income up 34 per cent to PHP 18.42 billion, while Metrobank, where he serves as director, posted a record PHP 37.3-billion net income in the first nine months of 2025. Metrobank was also named the strongest bank in the Philippines for the fifth consecutive year by The Asian Banker. GT Capital climbed to 61st overall and seventh among Philippine firms on the Fortune Southeast Asia 500 list.

Beyond business, Ty advances innovation and nation-building. In 2025, Federal Land, Inc. partnered with Ateneo de Manila University to establish a 15-hectare campus within its Riverpark township in Cavite. He continues his late father Dr George SK Ty’s philanthropic legacy through the Metrobank, GT, and Toyota foundations, supporting initiatives in health, education, and community development. Ty’s influence also reaches the retail sector; as chairman of Federal Land, he introduced Japan’s Mitsukoshi brand to the Philippines in 2022, enhancing local retail and fostering cultural exchange.

Did You Know?

Ty’s first car when he was a college student was a Toyota Celica. Long before their family took over the local distributorship and expanded the business, he was driving this two-door model in Los Angeles. While he admits his first choice was a Toyota Supra—which his father refused to give him—he souped up the Celica and had many good memories of it before moving back to the Philippines.
