Alexander Tedja is the founder and President Commissioner of PT Pakuwon Jati.

Founded in 1982 and listed in the Jakarta Stock Exchange in 1989, the company is responsible for mixed-use developments that combine condos, hotels, malls and offices in Jakarta and Surabaya. Some of its properties include Pakuwon Mall Surabaya, Shangri-La Surabaya and Casa Grande Residence. It’s also behind Surabaya’s largest mall Tunjungan Plaza and Kota Kasablanka mall in Jakarta, a partnership with South Korea’s Lotte.

The tycoon Tedja’s first foray into property was in the 1980s when he bought land that eventually led to the opening of his first real estate development, Plaza Tunjungan I, a shopping centre in Surabaya.

In the 1970s, the 27-year-old Tedja worked in the movie industry, establishing PT ISAE Film. This was expanded with the establishment of PT Pan Asiatic Film and PT Menara Mitra Cinema Corp.
