The Creatives | Alex Po is paving the way for greater experimentation in menswear with his smocking-forward, gender-fluid label Ponder.er

Alex Po’s early style experiments began with his Hong Kong school uniform. By tailoring trousers and playing with oversized sweaters, he discovered the thrill of breaking rules from within—a sensibility that now drives his work as co-founder of Ponder.er. His creative journey led him to Central Saint Martins, where he met Derek Cheng. Though their aesthetics differed, they shared a bold instinct to push menswear beyond tradition.

After graduating in 2019, they launched Ponder.er, gaining attention for their gender-fluid designs. In 2024, the brand was named a semi-finalist for the LVMH Prize. Celebrities such as Lil Nas X, K-pop girl group Itzy and Seventeen’s Mingyu have all been spotted in the brand's garments.

For Po, style is character—an outward reflection of personal history, values and curiosity.

“It’s not about putting womenswear on men or vice versa—it’s about dismantling labels. We want to create garments that encourage experimentation.”
