Philanthropic endeavours aren’t uncommon in the family of Alexandra Madrigal Eduque. Her grand-aunt Consuelo Chito Madrigal founded an eponymous charitable institution, and her grandfather Antonio Madrigal was known to build churches in places that needed them.

The fondness for philanthropy must have rubbed off on Eduque: at just 15 years old, she was already involved with Habitat For Humanity, building homes in marginalised communities. In 2012, when she was just 22 years old, Eduque founded the MovEd Foundation, a nonprofit that works to provide basic early education to young children in need.

She believes in the importance of genuine outreach in philanthropy—in investing time as well as money. “Volunteerism forms the backbone of many non-profit organisations,” Eduque once told Tatler. “That being said, I would advise this generation inheriting new wealth and resources to supplement the time they are lending with monetary resources in order to augment their involvement and fuel what they are most passionate about.”
