Aireen Omar is responsible for Capital A’s venture builder arm, RedBeat Capital, which accelerates innovation

Through RedBeat Capital (the venture builder arm of Capital A), Aireen Omar incubates, develops and accelerates leading innovative new businesses and solutions, while promoting innovation throughout group. She is also CEO of Airasia Academy.

Aireen joined AirAsia in January 2006 as director of corporate finance and was instrumental in shaping AirAsia into one of the fastest-growing and most highly acclaimed airlines globally. In 2012, Aireen was appointed as AirAsia Berhad’s executive director and chief executive officer. In 2018, she became deputy group CEO and was responsible for digital transformation, overseeing strategic group-wide digital initiatives to help transform AirAsia into a global cloud and data-driven platform company.

At AirAsia Digital, Aireen was also pivotal in incubating and growing the group’s digital and fintech businesses such as AirAsia SuperApp, AirAsia Rewards, BigPay and Teleport. Notably, she spearheaded the transformation of airasia.com into more than just an airline platform, all in the thick of the pandemic.

Her accolades include the Outstanding CEO Achievement Award by Malaysian Women of Excellence, Corporate Treasurer’s 25 Most Influential Women in Treasury, Masterclass Woman CEO of the Year by Selangor Excellence Business Awards, Eminent Leaders in Asia at the Asia Corporate Excellence and Sustainability Awards (ACES) and APAC CEO of the Year 2017 by Aviation 100 Awards. Under her leadership, AirAsia was awarded Digital Transformer of the Year in Malaysia at the IDC Digital Transformation Awards (DXa) 2019.

Aireen Omar, who is an economics graduate from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and holds a masters in economics from New York University, began her career at Deutsche Bank Securities Inc, where she served as an associate from 1997 to 2000 in New York and London, her last position being at the Equity Arbitrage Proprietary Trading Desk focusing on international equities, equity derivatives and equity-linked products. After returning to Malaysia in 2001, she served in several major local financial institutions including the Maybank Group, the country’s largest banking and financial services group.
