With over four decades of business experience, Adrian's properties consist of various luxurious brands, such as Regent Hotels & Resorts, GHM hotels, and Aman Resorts. The latter is well-loved globally, with locations in Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the US; the first Aman property was Amanpurin in Phuket, built in 1998. Some of its properties in Indonesia include Amandari in Bali as well as Amanjiwo in Magelang. After Aman, Adrian’s latest ventures are three Azerai resorts in Vietnam with Indonesia and the Philippines in the pipeline. The living legend also opened Azumi Setoda in the Seto Inland Sea of Japan. Zecha used to live in the country, where he was amazed by the harmony and delicateness of Japanese culture. Adrian was born in Sukabumi, West Java, in 1933, to an upper-class Peranakan family. He spent his teenage and young adulthood in the US before moving to Indonesia to become a journalist. His career once again found Adrian going back Stateside to work for Time Magazine and establishing several magazines, such as Asia Magazine and Orientations.
