Filmmaker

One of the most successful Malaysian directors to emerge in the local film industry in recent years, Adrian Teh’s action movies have been big box office hits

Adrian Teh is a highly acclaimed Malaysian director and producer best known for his immensely successful action-packed films Paskal: The Movie and Wira. The Penang-born filmmaker, who launched his career directing primarily Chinese-language films, helmed his first Malay-language and action flick in 2018 to great commercial success.

Some of Teh’s early directing and producing credits include Lelio Popo, The Wedding Diary, King of Mahjong, and Hungry Ghost Ritual. He then wrote and directed Paskal: The Movie, a military action film inspired by the elite Royal Malaysian Navy special force, which became one of the highest-grossing domestically made films in Malaysia. This was followed up with another high octane, critically acclaimed film Wira, about an ex-military man who returns home and enters an underground mixed martial arts match to protect his family from the local mobster.

From 2020, Teh turned his focus to other genres, he directed his first Malay-language romantic comedy and Netflix’s first original Malaysian film, Pasal Kau. He also returned to directing a Chinese-language production, with his first suspense thriller and series Model Family, and producing the horror film Ada Hantu. Teh is the founder of the Chinese Film Association of Malaysia and is responsible for the first-ever Chinese movie awards ceremony in Malaysia, the Golden Wau Awards.

Aside from films, the husband and father of two is an accomplished triathlete and has completed multiple Ironman triathlons.
