The celebrated Malaysian entertainer captivates audiences with award-winning performances
Abdul Rahman Osman, popularly known as Man Bai, is a celebrated figure in Malaysia’s music scene. He first gained recognition as the lead vocalist of the band Gersang, which was formed in 1981. In 1988, Gersang released their self-titled album, which rocketed them to stardom and cemented their position in the local rock music scene. But it was in 1995, as a solo artist, that Man Bai truly broke through with his classic single Kau Ilhamku, which is still a fan favourite in Malaysia today. The track has been widely covered and continues to resonate with fans across generations.
Beyond his music career, Man Bai has also ventured into acting. He made his cinematic debut with Shuhaimi Baba’s Layar Lara (1997), where he starred alongside Ida Nerina. His portrayal in the film earned him the Best Supporting Actor Award at the Malaysian Film Festival that year. He further showcased his acting skills in Puteri Gunung Ledang (2004), acting alongside M. Nasir and Tiara Jacquelina under the direction of Saw Teong Hin.
Despite facing vocal challenges that required surgery and led to a six-year hiatus, Man Bai remains a respected artist in both music and film, with Kau Ilhamku standing as a lasting testament to his enduring influence.
