Raising Climate Awareness
The erratic weather condition these days—sweltering hot one moment, thunderstorms the next—is a sign of global warming. While environmental awareness and the efforts to live more sustainably are better than say, five years ago, there's still much work to be done to prevent a climate catastrophe. According to the UN Environment Programme’s Emissions Gap Report 2022, the world is headed for 2.8 degrees of global heating by the end of the century—a seemingly negligible number but the effects can be devastating.
With this in mind, former model turned environmentalist Melissa Tan joined the Antarctic Climate Expedition to raise awareness about the threats facing the world's oceans and how to save them. Headed by the renowned ocean geographer Dr Sylvia Earle, Tan was the only Malaysian representative in a group of 110 ambassadors, comprising climate experts, conservationists, activists, entrepreneurs and artists—all united by a passion and belief in preserving the planet.
