When a viewer examines a gestural abstraction work, the immediate response usually sits between intrigue and confusion. One might find the work teeming with a multitude of meanings, layer upon layer of colours and strokes that might be understood either by deconstructing the work or looking at it closely and for a little bit longer to achieve an optical illusion. One might also encounter a particular atmosphere evoked by the chosen colours, which hints at the artist’s emotions, expressions, desires, and frustrations. A sigh or a cry could have been realised in drips and blotches. Ectsasy could have been the impetus for the stroke that cuts the frame into two.
