As wellness to continues shifts, Eden Social Club co-founder, Adriana Azhar, shares how the wellness haven concept came to life

Founded by sisters Adriana Azhar, Batrisyia Azhar, Iman Azhar and Damia Azhar, Eden Social Club was born from a shared vision of wellness—one shaped not only by their individual passions, but also by the way they spent time together.

From workout classes and café catch-ups to beauty appointments around the city, the sisters found themselves constantly moving between different spaces in pursuit of the same goal: feeling their best.

It was this experience that inspired Eden Social Club, a lifestyle destination that brings Lagree, pilates, a beauty bar and café together under one roof. It’s designed as a modern sanctuary where movement, self-care and connection naturally intersect.

Adriana shares how the sisters transformed that idea into a community-driven concept built around a simple belief: wellness should fit seamlessly into everyday life.

Kuala Lumpur is no stranger to fitness studios, beauty salons or cafés. But for the founders, the city's wellness scene was missing something far more fundamental: continuity.

"We wanted to create a space where movement, recovery, beauty and connection could exist under one roof and become part of everyday life," says Adriana. "Instead of having to bounce from one location to another, everything you need is here. Face it, KL is also famous for its traffic."

That philosophy forms the foundation of Eden Social Club. Rather than focusing solely on fitness, they envisioned a one-stop shop that’s all about wellness.

For Adriana, the concept is rooted in a simple truth: wellness is never one-dimensional. "Our mind and body require different types of attention, so why not have them attended to in one spot rather than four separate locations?" she says. Whether it's a Lagree session, a nourishing meal or a post-workout beauty appointment, every touchpoint has been thoughtfully designed to form part of a larger wellness journey.

That same intention extends to the design of the space itself. Inspired by the idea of the Garden of Eden, the interiors were created to feel like an escape from the outside world—a place where members can step away from the noise of everyday life and focus on themselves.

"When we decided on Eden, we wanted to ensure that our space embodies it and not just sounds cute," Adriana explains. "Think 'me time'. Tune out all the outside world noise the moment you enter and just feel the weight on your shoulders lifted."

Each area serves a distinct purpose, from movement and recovery to beauty and nourishment, while contributing to a shared atmosphere of calm and comfort.

As the name suggests, community is equally central to Eden's identity. While many fitness experiences begin and end within a 45-minute class, the founders wanted to create a space where people would linger long after their workout was over.

"What makes anything successful and sustainable? A happy community," says Adriana. "We would like to think that we have built a place where you could make connections, not just spend time bettering yourselves or with current friends, but new ones too."

The café plays an important role in fostering that sense of connection. For Malaysians, food has always been at the heart of social life, and the sisters wanted that culture reflected within the club.

"Oftentimes we end up grabbing something fast and not entirely healthy before or after a workout because of time restrictions or simply because we're hungry," she says. "Food and gathering are deeply central to who we are as Malaysians. It's how we connect, celebrate and decompress. The café is where Eden stops being a studio and becomes a social club."

Behind the business is a partnership built on sisterhood. While Adriana focuses on the fitness offering, Batrisyia oversees the dry bar and café, while Iman and Damia lead the beauty bar. Their differing strengths have helped shape Eden's multidimensional identity, while a shared vision keeps everyone moving in the same direction.

"We may be sisters, but we are definitely not the same," Adriana says with a laugh. "We each have our own colourful personalities and strengths. We put our egos aside and ensure our visions and decisions align because, at the end of the day, we want the same thing."

At the heart of Eden's fitness offering is Lagree, the globally popular workout method known for delivering intense results through slow, controlled movement. While often compared to Reformer Pilates, Adriana believes Lagree offers something distinctly different.

"What drew us to it was the combination of being deeply challenging and completely low-impact," she explains. "You're working at a muscular level that most people have never accessed before, without the joint stress that comes with many high-intensity formats."

Built around the principle of time-under-tension, Lagree keeps muscles engaged for longer periods while maintaining a steady level of intensity throughout each session. The result is a workout that challenges strength, endurance and control simultaneously.

Yet the appeal goes beyond physical transformation. As wellness continues to evolve, Adriana is seeing a shift away from aesthetics-driven goals towards a more holistic pursuit of wellbeing.

"We often look for a sense of calmness after a great workout," she says. "That's why we wanted to build a sanctuary for our community. Leave your headaches out the door and focus on what needs focusing."

Looking ahead, she believes wellness will continue to become more personalised, integrated and intentional, with people increasingly seeking experiences that fit naturally into their lifestyles rather than chasing trends.

While Eden may continue to evolve—with new recovery modalities, programming and perhaps even expansion beyond Kuala Lumpur—the vision remains unchanged.

"Whatever we build, the foundation stays the same," says Adriana. "One space for your rituals, with people you want to be around."
