How will your Chinese zodiac animal sign affect your life in 2023? What should you be more aware of as you approach work, relationships, and more in the new year? And how do the different types of Dzi beads play a part in countering negative energy and restoring balance in your everyday life?

“Through trial and error over the past 20 years and customer feedback along the way, I’ve discovered the best possible Dzi combinations that are ideal for people based off their unique needs,” says Dato’ Martin Lui, master of Chinese metaphysics and founder of the award-winning Dzi specialist centre in Malaysia, Dzi Kingdom.

“For those whose animal sign is the Rabbit or the Rooster, I typically recommend the three-eyed and seven-eye Dzi beads,” he says, adding that each bead represents different things. The three-eyed bead, for instance, is best for happiness, prosperity and health, and is optimally paired with the seven-eyed bead to form a perfect 10 from three and seven in fengshui terms.

Read on for Dato' Martin Lui's predictions for the new year, along with the ideal Dzi beads to wear based on your Chinese zodiac sign.

Year: 2008, 1996, 1984, 1972, 1960 and 1948

Recommended Dzi Bead: Six-Eyed Dzi for career and protection (Paired with aquamarine for awareness and good judgement)

After going through 2022 without any lucky stars, the Rat will encounter many lucky stars in 2023, offsetting the effects of Xing Tai Sui. This year, obstacles will be resolved easily and career success is on the horizon with promotions or increments to be expected. You can even expect advancements in relationships and marriage prospects. This is the year to look forward to successful execution of business strategies and plans toward a prosperous increase of wealth and gains. However, there are certain things to avoid: temptations that will harm marriages, gossiping about others and spreading rumours, and frauds or scoundrels. Be mindful of your actions and spoken words.

Year: 2009, 1997, 1985, 1973, 1961 and 1949

Recommended Dzi Bead: Two-Eyed Dzi (Paired with amethyst and smokey quartz to balance the mind and ease anxiety)

This year, the Ox has no conflict with the Grand Duke; however, there will also be no lucky star.  Everything demands your double attention, so you should be hardworking and keep a peaceful, positive mind to get through the Year of the Rabbit. Be mindful of mood swings that will offend others and avoid negative occasions or dark places. Though you might be prone to accidents or injury and easily triggered by negative emotions and wrong decisions, 2023 is also a year of prayer and charity to gain more merits.

Tiger

Year: 2019, 1998, 1986, 1974, 1962 and 1950

Recommended Dzi Bead: Phurba Dzi (Paired with amethyst and smokey quartz to balance the mind and ease anxiety)

This year, seek treatment for your mental wellbeing. Be vigilant of bad moods and temper, and improvise financial and investment management. The past Tiger year was filled with turbulence in fortune. This year, there are no lucky stars. Tigers will need to recuperate and regulate their personal emotions, be optimistic, and stay positive. Practise prayer, meditation and a healthy lifestyle. Stay calm to avoid trouble.

Recommended Dzi Bead: Seven-Eyed Dzi

For the Rabbit zodiac, 2023 is the year of the Grand Duke (Fan Tai Sui). Things will be difficult at first, despite all the lucky stars. Handle your emotional thoughts and don't be too extreme in expressing dislikes. Challenges can be overcome with an optimistic attitude and all hindrances can be handled by remaining calm. Create celebrations and auspicious occasions to counteract bad luck. Pay special attention to the wellbeing of family, especially the elderly. Wealth and prosperity is within your reach, as well as career advancement and outstanding performance at work.

Year: 2012, 2000, 1988, 1976, 1964 and 1952

Recommended Dzi Bead: Tai Yan Dzi

The Dragon spent the Year of the Tiger without any lucky stars. In 2023, the influence by Hai Tai Sui means one will likely be framed or be the victim of gossips. You may encounter troubles, obstacles, setbacks, and regressed relationships. At the same time, it is necessary to prepare for the impact of next year's Fan Tai Sui in the later months. This is not the year to take new or high-risk investments, but befriending good benefactors is advised. Learn to adapt to the changes in life or new places.

Snake

Last year, the Snake shed its stressful and troubled skin. This Rabbit year, there will be powerful benefactors to assist you, and there is also the suggestion of action bringing wealth and stabilising luck. Expect many auspicious activities and opportunities to work overseas. Look out for good business opportunities and strong support from benefactors. Take extra care of your elderly loved ones and relatives and be prepared to encounter intense negative emotions.

Year: 2014, 2002, 1990, 1978, 1966 and 1954

Recommended Dzi Bead: Money Hook Dzi

Influenced by Po Tai Sui in the Year of the Rabbit, the Horse may encounter overwhelming emotions and anxiety that will affect performance to achieve success. Don't set goals too high that will cause havoc in your daily life. This is the year to rekindle relationships with friends and organise or attend celebrations. It's a great year for marriage proposals and conceiving children. Resolve problems with creativity and agile thinking, and practise a cheerful and smiling manner. Remain positive to attract good vibes and good news.

Recommended Dzi Bead: Nine-Eyed Dzi

Twenty-twenty three is the year of cooperation for the Goat, entailing favourable partnerships and business ventures and smooth career growth. In addition, there are many lucky stars to help and it is expected that the overall luck will improve and develop. Be flexible and do not be stubborn when faced with troubles which can be resolved quickly. Try to think out of the box, as you'll have resources to solve any problems. This year is great for those in the creative industry.

The Monkey overcame the Chong Tai Sui in what has been an exhausting and turbulent year in 2022. This year's luck has stabilised and with the assistance of many lucky stars and benefactors, it's a time to embrace help, be optimistic and positive, and start over. Meet new friends and expect harmonious relationships. It's a good year for real estate investment.

Year: 2017, 2005, 1993, 1981, 1969 and 1957

Recommended Dzi Bead: Three-Eyed Dzi

For Roosters, 2023 is the year of Chong Tai Sui. There is no lucky star this year and luck may decline greatly. Every difficulty must be faced with optimism and strength. It is best to organise happy events, such as marriage, childbirth, and birthday parties to help counteract bad luck. Seek blessings at places of worship. It's best to upskill yourself, whether it be by upgrading academic qualifications or some other form of self-improvement.

You'll be able to achieve more with half the effort, and misfortune turns into good luck. It’s time to turn ideas into reality to achieve success. Stay humble and do good deeds. Be more productive and less talk this year. Be prepared to cope with the ups and downs of next year, the Year of the Dragon.

There will be many gatherings and much entertaining for the Pig, which can strengthen the development of personal connections, bring benefit and good responses especially to sellers and buyers. However, there is no wealth star. So more hard work and relationship-building are required. Spend more time learning and improving yourself. Be open-minded on success and failure. If you fail, stand tall and try again.
