Marking a major step forward for Malaysia’s medical landscape, Hospital Picaso launches with state of the art robotic systems, specialist led centres and a unified approach to complex surgical and cancer care

Hospital Picaso has officially unveiled its state of the art medical facility in Petaling Jaya, marking an important milestone for Malaysia’s advancement in surgical innovation and integrated oncology care. Although the hospital has been serving patients since June 2024, the formal launch on November 26, 2025 offered an opportunity to present its advanced facilities, technologies and multidisciplinary care model to the wider public and medical community. The ceremony was officiated by His Royal Highness Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Darul Khusus Tuanku Muhriz ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, whose presence underscored the national significance of the institution’s vision.

Led by Hospital Picaso’s medical director, Dato’ Dr Luqman Mazlan, Tuanku Muhriz was given a private tour of the hospital. Luqman also shared the hospital’s vision to be a Centre of Excellence for Advanced Surgery and Integrated Oncology treatment. These two centres encompass the Urology Centre, Women’s Health Centre, Breast Centre, Gastrointestinal and Liver Centre and Cancer Centre.

According to Luqman, “each centre is a team of senior consultants and key opinion leaders in their respective specialties, and they collaborate across disciplines, ensuring that every treatment plan is coordinated, personalised, and delivered with continuity of care.” This integrated approach ensures that patients with complex conditions, including cancer, endometriosis and multi system health concerns, receive care that is cohesive, thoroughly coordinated and attentive to long term recovery.

The hospital’s dedication to innovation was further highlighted by Dato’ Dr Loh Chit Sin, chairman of clinical practice and board of director of Hospital Picaso, who showcased the hospital’s suite of advanced surgical technologies. These include KOELIS, a precision-guided robotic system for prostate procedures; the Da Vinci Xi robotic surgical systems, which support minimally invasive operations, and the NanoKnife System, a cutting-edge non-thermal ablation technology used for tumour treatment. Loh also affirmed the hospital’s commitment to offering a full range of advanced treatment options within Malaysia, ensuring that patients can access world class care without the need to seek treatment overseas.

To mark the special occasion, Tuanku Muhriz performed a micro-sized ribbon-cutting on the Da Vinci Xi robotic system itself, creating a striking visual representation of Hospital Picaso’s belief that technological advancement and human expertise stands at the centre of Hospital Picaso’s philosophy.

In his address, Loh emphasised that the hospital’s mission extends beyond clinical excellence. He highlighted a commitment to education, knowledge sharing and the cultivation of future specialists in robotic and minimally invasive surgery. This long term investment in skill development aims to reinforce Malaysia’s leadership position in the region while ensuring continued progress in patient outcomes for years to come.

Since commencing operations in June 2024, Hospital Picaso has already achieved a number of national milestones demonstrating commitment to being a Centre of Excellence for oncology and advanced surgery. It has recorded the highest number of robotic surgeries in Malaysia during its first year and conducted several national firsts, including Malaysia’s inaugural NanoKnife procedure for prostate cancer and the country’s first scarless robotic-assisted VNOTES surgery for endometrial cancer.
