Proteins are one of the most important nutritional foods for the human’s body as it helps to recover cells. Babies and children also need proteins to build new cells. Proteins also play a big part in making antibodies, turning it into an enzyme. And if you still feel blank about proteins, here are some facts from nutritionist and Co-Founder of Burgreens, Max Mandias.
There are two main sources of protein
According to publications, 65 per cent of proteins in Asia, South America, and many other parts of the world is obtained from vegetable sources. Meanwhile, in Australia and Europe, 65 per cent of proteins are obtained from animal sources.
Not all proteins are easy to digest
Protein from vegetable sources is 10 per cent harder to digest as it contains more fibre. But don’t worry as it can be balanced with other protein sources from daily consumption. Furthermore, proteins from nuts and vegetables have a lot of benefits for the body, since these are rich in fibre, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Recommended protein consumption
According to the World Health Organization, people are recommended to consume at least 0.83 grams per day. But it may be different for a professional athlete, for example, as they will need more proteins.
