Planning to visit a Disney park soon? We help you narrow down your next guilty pleasure that will thrill your inner child
A trip to Disneyland often means meeting up with your favourite characters and making sure you spend time on a couple of rollercoaster rides. The six Disneyland parks around the world—California, Paris, Florida, Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong—draw throngs of eager Disney fans through its doors every year. There is also something about the air at any Disneyland that makes you especially eager to forget counting calories for the sake of treating yourselves to a delicious snack.
In a whole league of its own, the snacks at Disneyland are legendary for good reason. The most popular Disneyland snacks such as the dole whip and Mickey beignet are famous among visitors and even potential visitors. These snacks have been such a hit with visitors over the years that there are recipes online for those who want to recreate them at home. Now, forget about packing your own snacks and savour these treats on your next visit to the happiest place on Earth.
1. Mickey Beignet
Anything Mickey is a staple at Disneyland. Inspired by the appealing beignets made by Princess Tiana on screen in The Princess and the Frog, the fried pastry is a crowd favourite. Coated with powdered sugar and best paired with a generous dollop of vanilla cream sauce, bite into sweet goodness as you explore the theme park.
2. Churro
No trip to Disneyland is complete without joining the queue for a cinnamon sugar-sprinkled churro stick. Bite into one stick and you’ll quickly realise why these snacks have been a cult favourite for decades. Churros in Disneyland are unlike any other you’ll find outside—to the extent that you may never be able to recreate the exact taste at home. Aside from the classic cinnamon sugar flavour, there are also a multitude of flavours that some parks offer. Look out for the blueberry churro (which comes with a blueberry chocolate dipping sauce) and the s’mores churro which combines the sweetness of melted chocolate and graham crackers.
3. Dole Whip
When braving the sweltering heat in the summer seasons, a classic Disneyland dole whip is your go-to. This swirly dessert is usually a soft-serve pineapple, dairy-free sorbet. Seasonal flavours like watermelon, mango, and raspberry are available in the summer months. If you fancy a drink along with the dessert, a dole whip float is available to satisfy your craving.
4. Jack-Jack Cookie Num Num
Have you ever wanted to try a snack you see on screen in real life? This is your chance. Frequently snacked on by Jack-Jack in The Incredibles 2, this sweet chocolate treat is served nice and warm at Disneyland. Larger in size than the average cookie, you can share it with friends and family—or enjoy the buttery dough and gooey chocolate chunks all to yourself.
5. Matterhorn Macaroon
Inspired by the 1959 Disney movie Third Man on the Mountain, the Matterhorn Macaroon is a convenient snack to munch on while navigating through the theme park. The coconut and almond flavoured pastry is crafted in the shape of a mountain and dipped in white chocolate to mimic the Matterhorn Bobsled attraction.
6. Tigger Tail
No animals were harmed in the making of this kid-favourite Disney snack. This adorable, Insta-worthy snack will be especially useful to have on hand as a prop during a photo op with Tigger. If you have an insatiable sweet tooth, this snack is for you as it is made with a row of marshmallows generously dipped in caramel, white chocolate, rolled in sanding sugar, and decorated with dark chocolate.
7. Mickey Mouse Pretzel
A perfect snack to pull apart, Mickey Mouse pretzels are perfect for those who appreciate a savoury treat at any time of the day. The dough pastry is soft to the bite, making it enjoyable for both the young and old. For cheese lovers, the pretzel is best paired with a nacho cheese dip.
8. Caramel Apple
Don’t be fooled by this pretty snack. Caramel apples at Disneyland are inspired by the well-loved Disney princess film Snow White, whom we all know fell into a deep sleep upon biting into a poisoned apple. Disneyland’s caramel apples are usually coated with chocolate glaze with some that come decorated with glitter and graham crackers—don’t worry, nothing evil here.
