A solo bachelorette or ‘solorette’ provides a refreshing alternative (or addition) to the often unrealistic expectations of a traditional group celebration
In the months leading up to the wedding come many rites of passage for the bride-to-be―saying “yes” to the dress, bridal showers and, of course, the iconic bachelorette party. Once a simple night out with close friends, the traditional pre-wedding celebration has evolved into a pricey, multi-day affair that often includes round-trip airfare, elaborately themed itineraries, coordinated outfits and Instagrammable backdrops.
With these new expectations comes a certain pressure on the bride: to please a demanding crowd and take part in enforced fun amid the chaos of wedding preparations. Amid the chaos, some brides have opted out of the group for a more peaceful alternative to the long-standing tradition—the solorette.
A solorette, or solo bachelorette trip, is precisely what it sounds like: The bride goes on her bachelorette all by herself for some extra “me time”, and uses this time away for self-reflection, indulgence and relaxation before the big day.

Why are brides-to-be opting for solorette trips?
Although the idea of a solo bachelorette isn’t entirely new, the term solorette began gaining traction in late 2024, after lifestyle publication Popsugar published an article on pre-wedding solo holidays. Since then, the concept has resonated with brides who seek something more personal—and more peaceful—before the big day.
Whether it’s a wellness retreat, a nature escape or a weekend staycation, more women are embracing the idea that celebrating yourself can start with a solo trip. The rise of the solorette reflects a broader cultural shift in how women approach both travel and themselves.
Social media has played a decisive role in normalising this trend. Platforms like TikTok, Instagram and YouTube are filled with female creators sharing their solo travel experiences—from dreamy resort stays to honest advice on safety, budgeting and eating alone. These posts have helped dismantle stigma, boost visibility and empower others to see solo travel as a possible or even empowering option.
The data backs the rise of the solo female traveller (brides-to-be or not). A recent survey by the tourism market research firm Future Partners found that nearly 40 per cent of female travellers are interested in embarking on a solo trip in 2025—up by eight per cent from the previous year. Meanwhile, luxury travel network Virtuoso reports that the majority of its solo clients are women, at 71 per cent.

Destinations and travel professionals are also beginning to take notice of this trend. Luxury hotels and wellness resorts are curating solo traveller-friendly packages, offering everything from private excursions to wellness itineraries. Travel agents are stepping in to make the experience better and easier, removing the pressure of planning and helping brides create moments that feel elevated, intentional and personalised. When done right, a solorette can feel less like checking a box and more like a luxurious gift to yourself during a busy time in your life.
