Be it Michelin-starred Cantonese dining or gorgeous views from above 490 metres, luxury reaches new heights at The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong
When you’re staying at one of the world’s highest hotels, you might think that the spectacular views would be the highlight. But The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong proves that being 490 metres above the sea is just the beginning of what makes this property truly extraordinary.
Perched on floors 102 to 118 of the International Commerce Centre in West Kowloon, the hotel literally elevates luxury to new heights. Through personalised touches in guest rooms, Michelin-starred fine dining options and more, the hotel leaves no stone unturned to impress guests at every turn.
Of course, the cherry on the cake is the 360-degree views, sweeping across Victoria Harbour and over the Peak on one side, and Kowloon on the other, with glimpses stretching as far as Macau on clear days.
First impressions
Above The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong doesn’t just tower over the city, it reshapes Hong Kong’s skyline
My journey to the clouds began at the hotel entrance on the ninth floor, where friendly staff greeted us before whisking us up in an ear-popping elevator ride to the 103rd floor reception.
The design of the lobby immediately caught my attention. A cool ocean of Palissandro marble flows throughout the space, contrasting nicely with the dark wood entryways that lead to the lift lobbies. I was particularly struck by how modern interpretations of traditional Chinese fittings and artwork, such as classic Chinese watercolour horses in separate panels, gave the lobby a distinctive look and created an interesting interplay of perspectives.
The check-in process was remarkably smooth—completed within minutes by more smiling faces who clearly understood the art of seamless service.
Do not disturb
While the corridors leading to the rooms felt somewhat dimly lit, they open dramatically into gorgeous rooms with those killer views that I had anticipated. The attention to detail is evident everywhere—from desserts and The Ritz-Carlton’s signature sparkling tea welcoming me to cushioned window perches perfectly positioned for view-gazing sessions.
Those staying in The Ritz-Carlton suite can expect the signature luxury that The Ritz-Carlton brand is well-reputed for. We’re talking about a vast living room perfect for hosting an intimate party, a quiet study if you want to catch up on your reading, a glorious master bedroom with equally glorious views, a spacious bathroom that feels like a spa retreat, and many nooks and corners for privacy, Instagrammable moments and more. Among all these, it’s the chandelier in the living room that took our breath away.

The Ritz-Carlton houses several dining venues, but it was Tin Lung Heen, its two-Michelin-starred restaurant, that we chose to experience. Located on the 102nd floor, this temple to refined Cantonese cuisine didn’t disappoint. Boasting a rich décor with gold and red accents, with Victoria Harbour providing a dramatic backdrop, Tin Lung Heen creates the perfect setting for an indulgent meal. And indulged we were, from the amuse bouche to the dessert, with chef Paul Lau Ping Lui’s creations being a feast for the eyes, the tummy and the soul. Those who like Cantonese cuisine will especially like the double-boiled chicken and fish maw soup in baby coconut, the fried rice with abalone, goose and dried shrimp wrapped in lotus leaf and the chilled mango cream with sago and pomelo. Being a seafood lover myself, I also loved the freshness of the crab meat in the stuffed deep-fried crab shell. Yum!
Wellness and more

For me, no staycation is complete without getting a spa treatment and The Ritz-Carlton Spa, Hong Kong truly lives up to its billing as one of the best spas in Hong Kong. I chose the 90-minute hot stone spa with a facial, and while I could go on and on about how loose and relaxed my muscles felt and how I almost dozed off during the spa, let’s keep it short and say—it was 90 minutes of pure bliss.
The spa facilities are comprehensive: separate relaxation lounges for male and female guests, heat experience areas with aroma steam and stone saunas, plus a state-of-the-art fitness centre with an outdoor terrace.
The indoor swimming pool is impressive too—with its 28-metre length, mirrored ceiling, and high-resolution LED wall, swimming here feels like swimming among the clouds.
Tatler tip
I’d strongly recommend booking one of the Club rooms, which grants exclusive access to the 24-hour Club Lounge on the 116th floor. Situated 465 metres above sea level, it offers all-day perks including complimentary breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, hors d’oeuvres, and cordials, plus express check-in and check-out services and a concierge service.
But beyond these perks, what makes this space special is that it well and truly feels like a comfy, homely lived-in space, stocked with books, magazines, newspapers, munchies and drinks, basically everything you need to unwind after a long day.
